I am an Assistant Research Professor at The George Washington University and a Research Scientist at the Veterans Affair Hospital with extensive experience in pharmacological, biochemical and molecular biology techniques for both in vitro cell cultures and in vivo rodent studies. I have been working to create a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms of how the main pro-fibrogenic cells in the liver, hepatic stellate cells, gets activated through the regulation of many signal transduction pathways. Particularly, I developed a strong interest in the Akt pathway. I have been demonstrated that the three isoforms (Akt1, Akt2, and Akt3) of Akt differentially regulate cellular functions in vivo as well as cell in the culture models and how this isoforms plays a critical role in alcoholic liver disease. Previous research included the study of the pharmacokinetics of diclofenac during carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced liver damage and during the regeneration of the liver. I also demonstrated that thymosin-β4 (Tβ4) and curcumin, both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents; suppresses and/or prevents liver damage.
