Inclement Weather Policy

GW Medical Center Status

School of Medicine and Health Sciences
If the University closes or makes a decision to cancel classes, SMHS students and faculty should follow the instructions for their programs recorded on 202-994-3501.One person from each program or group (Year 1 and 2 Med students, PA, NP and HSP students) will be designated to call the central recording at 6:45 a.m. to initiate phone trees informing students whether classes are being held, cancelled or rescheduled. This information will also be available at www.gwumc.edu by clicking on the GWUMC status button.

Those in the MD Program (Years III and IV) and HS Students on Clinical Rotations are expected to meet their clinical responsibilities and to stay in touch with their resident and the clerkship or course director. In the event of adverse weather, all residents and fellows are required to report to their assigned rotations. University closure has no effect on resident and fellow work schedules. Basic Science faculty and GWUMC staff will follow the University policy unless otherwise requested by their chair or supervisor. All employees deemed essential must report to work.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program follows the University policy regarding cancellation of classes due to inclement weather, which is recorded on 202-994-5050. Students are expected to attend clinical immersion and internships unless directed otherwise by their clinical instructor or Program faculty. Students are expected to use good judgment should conditions exist that make travel between their residence and their clinical education site unsafe or impossible.

School of Public Health and Health Services
In the advent of inclement weather, the School of Public Health and Health Services will follow the decision of the University. Students, faculty and staff should call the University hotline at 202-994-5050 or check the GWUMC status button at www.gwumc.edu. Instructors who decide to postpone class even when the University is open will inform their students by phone tree. Staff will follow University policy unless otherwise instructed by their supervisors. All employees deemed essential must report to work.
