REGIONAL HEALTH INDICATORS REPORT

In 1995, the Metropolitan Washington Public Health Association published Advancing Prevention for Better Health in the Washington Metropolitan Area:Fixing a Baseline, a report that presented data on 46 health promotion and disease prevention indicators drawn from Healthy People 2000 for six Washington area jurisdictions and the nation.

In June 2001 MWPHAC completed and published the report: Community Health Indicators for the Washington Metropolitan Region. This report presents data on the status of prevention for 28 indicators for each of the nine jurisdictions in the region. A technical advisory committee of representatives from area jurisdictions guided the project.

Project Objectives
The objectives of this project are:
  • To identify the strengths and weaknesses in health promotion and disease prevention in the region
  • To provide data to inform officials and the public in the Washington metropolitan area about prevention needs and opportunities
  • To provide a database for planning and carrying out joint and common efforts to improve health promotion and disease prevention in the region
  • To improve data collection standards and methods and data exchange among Washington-area jurisdictions
