Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) mobilizes health professionals to advance the health and dignity of all people through action that promotes respect for, protection of, and fulfillment of human rights. Salary: This is a grant-funded project with an hourly salary to be set through the grant process. Hours: Program begins August 31, 2009 through the school year, with possibility of continuing into the summer. Program will run from 3:30pm until 6:30pm, Mondays-Thursdays. Location: Ft. Davis Community Center, 1400 41st St., SE Job Responsibilities: · Delivers the grant-funded project to girls as outlined in the proposal.
· Delivers program with understanding of and respect for girl-centered needs.
· Takes initiative when needed and shows enthusiasm for the project.
· Demonstrates ability to motivate girls to engage actively in and successfully complete the program.
· Plans activities and works effectively with contractors/facilitators, other service providers and site staff to ensure program activities meet project outcomes.
· Attends all meetings, prepares reports and ensures that all project requirements are adhered to.
· Communicates effectively with GI staff, community organization staff, site staff, children and parents.
· Adheres to schedule for programming and deadlines for data collection, program evaluation and grant reporting.
· Appropriately manages sensitive issues and issues of confidentiality, reporting same to supervisor as needed.
· Supports the goals of Girls Inc. WDCMA and works effectively as part of a team.
· Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· College Degree in related education and/or youth development area. Currently enrolled College Students may apply.
· Demonstrated expertise in teaching, youth development, group facilitation with preference given to peer mediation, conflict resolution, group process and self-defense.
· Demonstrated ability to motivate and relate successfully and positively to latency and middle school girls from urban environments.
· Demonstrated cultural competence.
· Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain systems and procedures to organize, document and track activities.
· Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communications skills.
· Ability to show initiative and commitment to the organization’s mission and program values.
· Preference will be given to applicants with a health science background.

Position: Power Hour Tutors
Power Hour is the after-school homework and academic assistance portion of our after-school initiatives. Girls Inc. is looking for after-school tutors to assist with academic enrichment for girls ages 11-14 at the Ft. Davis Recreation Center, 1400 41st St. SE.
Hours: Power Hour runs Monday-Thursday from 3:30-5pm.
Salary: This is a volunteer opportunity with the possibility of a facilitation position in the future.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
· Helping girls complete their homework, paying attention to individual subjects (math, reading, science, etc.)
· Help track student progress over the course of the school year.
· Prepare academic activities/lessons that engage the girls beyond homework.
· Assist facilitators with attendance and classroom management.
Qualifications:
· Must have knowledge of elementary, middle school and high school subject matter, teaching experience a plus.
· Must be organized and able to give instructions.
· Must be 18 years or older.
· Must be reliable and responsible.
· Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing situations.
