SAMSS Research Associate Duties/Responsibilities
The incumbent will work with Professors Seble Frehywot and Fitzhugh Mullan serving as the lead research staff for the WHO compulsory Service project and for the Gates Foundation Sub-Saharan Medical School Study (SAMSS).
Specific responsibilities of the Research Associate include:
o Plan, organizes, and conducts research in scientific, cultural, historical, or field regarding compulsory service programs for health workers in different countries, globally
o Prepare literature synthesis, annotated bibliography reports of completed projects for WHO-publication as well as publication in technical journals.
o Be in charge of arranging the logistics for the phone key informant interviews for the WHO project.
o Participate in key informant interviews for the WHO work and take minutes
o Work with the WHO team members in writing the intermediary and final report for the compulsory service project
o Serve as the editorial coordinator of site visit reports, copy editing the documents and circulating them for input from the site visit team for the SAMSS project
o Serving as editorial coordinator for the SAMSS Final Report
o Providing staff lead in organizing and carrying out SAMSS Findings Conference to take place in Africa in 2/10
o Performing sporadic reviews of HRH articles and documents as directed by the PI and CoPI
o Assist in survey analysis
Required Qualification
o Proficient in the skill of literature synthesis analysis reporting
o Qualified applicants should possess strong written (technical documentation) and oral communications skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
o Preferable MPH graduate in Health Policy, Global Health
o Overseas work or internship experience a plus (but not necessary)
o Experience work in health systems or health workforce issues in low-resource income countries at least for one year a plus

Quality Improvement Leader (Senior Research Scientist)
Basic Function and Responsibility
To lead and participate in the technical assistance provided to grantee hospitals participating in the Aligning Forces for Quality Equity Collaborative (formerly Expecting Success). This collaborative is a national initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation aimed at improving cardiac care for racial and ethnic minorities in a variety of clinical settings. This position is located in the Center for Health Care Quality in the Department of Health policy
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
1. Coordinate the development of all training and technical assistance modules
2. Participate in the site selection process and take part in site visits to program applicants
3. Assist with the selection of program advisors that will be responsible for providing training and technical assistance to selected sites
4. Oversee project data collection and editing, with a focus on data integrity and security
5. Work with other staff to analyze and report program data to hospitals, evaluators, the funder and others
6. Coordinate the day-to-day requirements of providing technical assistance through the various collaborative activities
7. Train selected sites in quality improvement techniques
8. Provide input into the structure of the collaborative activities
9. Conduct scheduled site visits to grantee hospitals
10. Help review and refine the Cardiovascular Improvement Plans generated by each grantee hospital
11. Facilitate monthly conference calls among all grantees
12. Lead training sessions in a variety of venues including the collaborative meetings
13. Act as a coordinator between all program advisors and the NPO
14. Assist in writing up program results for white papers or articles
15. Participate in presentations at subject appropriate professional conferences
16. Assist in other center quality improvement collaboratives and endeavors as needed.
Qualifications
• The minimum degree required for this job is a master’s degree with a minimum of 10-15 years experience
• Candidate must be a registered nurse or other health professional with extensive expertise in quality management, performance measurement and planning and implementing hospital quality improvement initiatives
• Prefer familiarity with inpatient cardiac care
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work in a self-motivated, small team environment
• Ability to travel regularly

GENERAL DETAILS: Public Health Director is a professional and administrative position involving responsibility for initiating and managing a local public health program and has the general powers and duties specified in Section 352 of the Public Health Law. An incumbent is responsible for maintaining a high standard of public health services, in accordance with the general policies and objectives of the Board of Health and with applicable State and local health laws and ordinances. The Public Health Director is responsible for protecting the health and safety of the county’s residents. EXPERIENCE NEEDED: A Master's Degree in public health or a related field* from a regionally accredited or New York State-registered college or university that demonstrates the core competencies of a public health education (Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, and Social and Behavior Sciences); AND three (3) years of public health administrative experience in a health related organization or government agency that demonstrates that the candidate possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to administer public health programs, including workforce and budget management, effective communication, effective establishment and implementation of policy or business goals, and compliance with legal requirements.

Nutrition Project Assistant
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit health-advocacy group based in
Washington, D.C., that focuses on nutrition and food safety. CSPI publishes Nutrition Action Healthletter, the nation's largest-circulation nutrition newsletter. My Medicare Matters Campaign Seeks Summer Intern
Who we are: My Medicare Matters is an education and outreach initiative that helps
people with Medicare and their families better understand Medicare. It is sponsored by
the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and supported by AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals,

The My Medicare Matters national campaign has three goals: (1) to maximize the
number of people who are “informed consumers” of Medicare, including Part D and who
are able to take appropriate next steps; and (2) to maximize the number of eligible
people who enroll in the Medicare Savings Programs, Part D Extra Help/Low-Income
Subsidy (LIS), (3) maximize access to related benefits for elders of modest financial

Intern Position: The My Medicare Matters campaign is looking for dynamic, detailoriented

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation is seeking a Post-Graduate Fellowship in Seattle. The Post-Graduate Fellowship is an intensive training program that provides opportunities both for self-directed research and interdisciplinary collaboration in health metrics. Strong candidates for this program have graduate-level training in quantitative methodology from one of the following areas: health policy, economics, mathematics, computer science, statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, health services, demography, engineering, physics, medical sciences, or other related fields. The Post-Graduate Fellowship (PGF) combines academic research, education and training, and professional work with progressive, on-the-job training and mentoring from an illustrious group of professors and researchers.
The purpose of the fellowship is to: Enhance skills in conducting in-depth, methodological research on a variety of global health topics with mentoring from faculty and researchers who are the leading minds in their fields. Advance knowledge of quantitative analytical methodologies and their application to global health. Develop understanding of the current global health landscape and its challenges. Strengthen the ability to design and implement research projects and mentor junior researchers. Prepare fellows for future positions in academia, national health agencies, international organizations, and foundations.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation is a new organization at the University of Washington. Its mission is to monitor global health conditions and health systems as well as to evaluate interventions, initiatives, and reforms. It uses cutting-edge techniques to tackle some of the most difficult and critical questions in global health and find answers that will become the foundation for better policies and, ultimately, better health.
IHME fellows work in one or two of six IHME focus areas: Generating systematic estimates of health outcomes, including mortality, causes of death, and the overall burden of disease. Measuring the coverage of specific health interventions and estimating the quality of care. Tracking, measuring, and analyzing donated funding for health and how it affects national government health spending. Estimating the costs and effectiveness of health service delivery platforms and interventions. Conducting impact evaluations of policies, interventions, and programs and assessing health system performance. Developing survey instruments and creating analytical tools to harness the value of data from national and international health information systems and from locally available sources.
Fellows receive training through on-the-job research, methods workshops, access to University of Washington courses, and on-site lectures and seminars. Fellows contribute directly to IHME's research agenda through their involvement in work groups, development of new methods, and managing and driving research projects to meet deliverables. Post-Graduate Fellowships are appointed at IHME for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year upon mutual agreement. The salary is $50,000. As University of Washington employees, fellows are eligible for an insurance benefits package that includes a choice among several medical and dental insurance plans, life insurance, and long-term disability. Please note that there is no retirement package included with this appointment.

Basic Function and Responsibility
To lead and participate in the technical assistance provided to grantee hospitals participating in the Aligning Forces for Quality Equity Collaborative (formerly Expecting Success). Job purpose: CHANGE seeks to promote accountability of U.S. international policies to reproductive and sexual health and rights objectives, in part by analyzing laws, policies, programs, and funding streams within and across sexual and reproductive health issues, including HIV/AIDS, family planning, and gender-based violence. The Senior Public Policy Associate tracks policies, legislation, and Executive Branch decisions affecting our key issues; represents CHANGE among policymakers, the broader community and colleague organizations and coalitions; and anticipates and identifies key opportunities for advancing our agenda in all these spheres. The ideal candidate will advance a team effort to conduct ongoing and in-depth analysis of the substantive details of funding flows, policies, and programs, and seek to change these where necessary. CHANGE is a fast-paced, team-oriented organization and the ability to work effectively and collegially as part of a team as well as to multi-task and conduct rapid-response efforts all are essential aspects of this position.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· Cultivate, maintain relationships with and represent CHANGE among critical House and Senate offices, particularly those such as House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Appropriations Committees, Senate Committees and others as relevant.
· Cultivate, maintain relationships with and represent CHANGE among critical Administration agencies including State Department, USAID and relevant White House offices.
· Advise leadership team on legislative strategy and process. Assist in creating the vision for CHANGE’s public policy efforts.
· Conduct ongoing sharp analysis of key legislative and policy documents related to U.S. global HIV/AIDS initiatives, reproductive health (including family planning and maternal health), abortion, gender based violence, UNFPA or other related institutions, such as the Global Fund and UNAIDS. Create fact sheets, background memos, and policy briefs as needed.
· Track relevant appropriations and authorization hearings, advocate on current or proposed legislation and amendments, create new legislative vehicles, and communicate with Congressional staff.
· Participate in coalitions on behalf of CHANGE and work with various organizations and key CHANGE staff on advocacy strategies, including writing letters to the executive and legislative branches, informing action alerts and conducting Hill outreach.
· Keep CHANGE staff informed about developments in U.S. funding, legislation, policies and programs related to sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and women’s rights and make recommendations for research, outreach and advocacy.
· Supervise interns on specific projects and initiatives
Qualifications:
- A law degree and/or master’s in public health/public policy, with a minimum of 5 years experience in public policy analysis, with an emphasis on public health issues and policies.
- Experience working effectively with legislators and administration officials strongly desired.
- Background in reproductive and sexual health and rights issues, human rights and/or public health.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills; good judgment and discretion are critical.
- Demonstrated and strong skills in research, analysis, and independent thinking.

Nature of Work:
The intern will be responsible for assisting staff in a variety of administrative and
content-related duties under the Public Health Informatics Program. o Assist with logistics for special meetings and events, such as coordinator meetings and World AIDS Day, particularly working with commercial vendors.

o Research organizations and initiatives related to developing special initiatives.
o Contribute to strategic planning meetings regarding development of the program.
o Communicate with other departments to help advance cross-departmental initiatives.
o Other tasks as designated by supervisor(s).
2. Assist with administrative needs of the Candlelight Memorial program (40%)
o Collect, analyze, and organize archival information, including coordinator and memorial stories, international media clips, photographs, etc.
o Work with other assistants and/or interns to conduct basic administrative tasks, including program registration and finances.
o Maintain database of international coordinators, partners, and affiliates.
