JOB SUMMARY
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks a motivated and dynamic Director for its Cancer Prevention and Control Program to provide leadership and direction of the programs policies and programs that address prevention, improved early detection and treatment of cancer. The program has focused on colorectal cancer, which is a preventable cancer with the lowest rates of screening. The Cancer Program also conducts activities to insure that breast and cervical cancer screening rates are sustained. It has a particular focus on disparities in screening, diagnosis and treatment. The Director will be responsible for strategic planning and implementing programs to prevent cancer in NYC and improve care and reduce disparities.

SALARY

Salary commensurate with qualifications

DUTIES
• Develop long-term and short-term program goals, objectives, and priorities
• Coordinate activities with resources within the DOHMH.
• Collaborate effectively with external partners necessary for program implementation and expansion.
• Present and explain the Bureau's activities to senior agency personnel and groups outside of DOHMH.
• Identify new research opportunities in order to explore new program areas.
• Mobilize funding plans to sustain and expand programs.
• Develop and comment on proposed regulations, standards, guidelines and legislation regarding cancer prevention and control issues.
• Represent the bureau at relevant national and local conferences and meetings.
• Recruit and hire personnel according to hiring plans and needs.
• Supervise and manage program staff
• Manage the Program budget.
• Oversee the management of program contracts.


PREFERRED SKILLS:
• Experience in program management, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation; experience with colon, cervical and breast cancer prevention programs preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple initiatives in complex bureaucracies.
• Familiarity with research methods and program evaluation. Knowledge of epidemiologic methods
• Experience in fiscal management
• Experience in writing grant proposals and program reports and making presentations.
• Ability to effectively communicate in large public forums
• Knowledge of policy analysis and development
• Ability to work rapidly and effectively in a high-profile environment
• Strong supervisory, administrative and organizational skills.
• Experience in collaboration and partner development both within complex organizations and with external partners.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. A Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of medicine, health, biological, or social science with public health experience OR

2. A Master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of health, biological, l or social science with public health experience and 10 years of responsible full-time experience in a responsible supervisory capacity in the appropriate field of specialization.

The Office of Sustainability seeks an Undergraduate Federal Work Study intern for the 2010-2011 academic year. RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
• Conducting research on sustainability issues including water, sustainability at peer institutions, sustainability engagement tools, and other topics as assigned.

OVERVIEW:
The Office of Sustainability seeks one (MBA/Graduate) intern for the 2010-2011 academic year. This position will support the Office’s Project Facilitator and will focus on providing analysis and shepherding of the Office’s projects. The Analyst Intern role provides a great opportunity to get involved with sustainability on campus by supporting the Office’s mission to create a future with resource systems that are healthy and thriving for all.

Intern-Health Management Services

Provide interns with an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience working in a health management department and gain an understanding of how an employee benefits program works. The purpose of this position is to support the various clinical program initiatives such as wellness and prevention and disease management. Scope of Work: The Office of Sustainability seeks a graduate student intern to provide support and assistance across a variety of projects.

The position will require the intern to work independently to meet deadlines and create high quality deliverables, as well as collaboratively in uncovering issues and opportunities in departments across the University.

Projects would include:

Green Office Assessments – The Office of Sustainability is playing a lead role in implementing a Green Office Assessment program to help faculty and staff enhance the sustainability of their work environments. This assessment process consists of a survey, in-person assessment, office presentation and certification. We would ask the Fellow to help support and take the lead on recruiting offices to participate, implementing the program, assisting with presentations and monitoring certification. The office assessment program is an important component of the Office of Sustainability’s work in engaging the entire GW community in our sustainability initiatives. As the intern works on this project s/he will conduct research and benchmarking on similar programs, outreach and education to participants, implementation of the program, tracking participation and progress, and deploying communications tactics such as an online blog on the website to provide virtual insight and updates to our community.

Outreach and Coordination – In order to help facilitate sustainability activities on campus, the intern will assist the Stakeholder Engagement Coordinator in and the Director in providing outreach to various groups (mostly student groups, and some staff and faculty groups) at GW and report back to the rest of the Office of Sustainability team. The intern will also help to share knowledge and information from the Office with the GW stakeholders. New this year, we are launching volunteer Eco-Rep positions in the residence halls to assist with sustainability programs such as Eco-Challenge, and Recyclemania. The intern will help organize the Eco-Reps, provide them with weekly assignments, help coordinate their activities with other groups on campus, including holding bi-weekly check-ins with them.

In addition, the intern will be asked to assist with other projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Pursuing a master’s degree, preferably in business, law, international affairs, public administration or public policy.
- Proven ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
- Experience with leadership and student organizing; knowledge of GW campus and operations is a plus.
- Solid understanding of sustainability issues, policy, and business is preferred.
- Creative and innovative approach to problems, a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating tact and diplomacy to consistently interact effectively and flexibly with diverse groups of people including executive management, faculty, staff, students and others is necessary.
- Ability to conduct general research on sustainability issues and best practice.
- Analytical skills, proficient in PowerPoint and Excel.
