Type of Appointment: Local Hire, part-time (20 hours/ week spread out in three/five days)

Background/General Description

The Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) is an international partnership to help the poor gain sustained access to water supply and sanitation services. Administered by the World Bank with financial support from several bi- and multi-lateral donors, WSP is a decentralized partnership and operates through offices in Africa, East Asia, Latin America and South Asia. A major thrust of the programs is to help its clients prepare for and implement actions towards meeting the water and sanitation (WSS) Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In pursuing their mission, WSP staff provides advisory support to projects and policies help identify and disseminate best practices and lessons from experience across countries, assist clients in the implementation of pilot projects to test out new ideas and facilitate informal networks of practitioners and sector stakeholders. The Water and Sanitation Program is implementing 2 projects funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The first project is on: “Total Sanitation and Sanitation Marketing: New Approaches to Stimulate and Scale Up Sanitation Demand and Supply”, and the second project is on: “Scaling Up Handwashing Behavior Change To Protect the Health of Poor Families and Children”.

The Water and Sanitation Program is planning to hire a Short Term Temporary (STT) to support the logistics and administrative functions of both of the aforementioned projects. The successful candidate for this position will have the following profile:

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist in procurement processes, preparations of procurement paperwork, etc.
2. Provide office support work as requested by the team involved in both the Sanitation and Handwashing projects.
3. Assist in editing memos, reports and Power Point presentations
4. Draft correspondence, such as letters, invitations and emails
5. Organize and/or update files and records.
6. Assist in scheduling interviews, meetings, appointments and travel arrangements
7. Assist in planning and arranging the logistics for meetings, conferences, presentations, and international events, which may include:
    · coordinating arrangements for participants
    · handling logistics (ordering audio and video conference, food and refreshments, booking conference rooms and equipment)
    · preparing and disseminating materials
8. Provide support to other units as needed
9. Assist uploading documents on web-based platforms
10. Assist with research as needed Selection Criteria:

· Minimum two years of undergraduate completed
· Minimum two years of experience conducting similar tasks
· Good verbal and written communication skills in English
· Power Point, Excel and MS World skills
· Organized and the ability to manage multiple tasks
· Precision, accuracy and relentless attention to detail
· Ability to work independently
· Flexibility to work few extra hours for upcoming deadlines, workshops or conferences
· Advanced verbal and written language skills in Spanish and/or French will be a plus

Length of Contract

The consultant will be contracted as a Short Term Temporary for six months, which, upon satisfactory completion and depending on the team needs and work requirements may be renewed for another six months. The consultant will work 20 hours per week spread out in three to five days. WSP will be flexible to better accommodate work hours with the candidate’s schedule; however, the ideal candidate will also have the flexibility to work extra hours during specific periods or events that require an additional load of work.

Estimated Schedule: Mid-December- June 2010. Please note that the ideal candidate would be able to start the first week in January and come in for training for a couple days in mid- December.

Remuneration: US$ 15 per hour (approximately US$ 6,000)
