POSITION SUMMARY:

The Kaiser Family Foundation’s Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured provides information and analysis on health care coverage and access for the low-income population with a special focus on Medicaid’s role and coverage of the uninsured. The Commission is the largest operating program of the Kaiser Family Foundation. The Commission’s work is conducted by Foundation staff under the guidance of a bipartisan group of national leaders and experts in health care and public policy. The Policy Analyst will be responsible for working on issues related to health coverage, access and delivery of care, and financing of health and long-term care services for the low-income population. These responsibilities include conducting policy analysis and synthesis, undertaking research in-house and in conjunction with outside contractors, and preparing Commission policy briefs, fact sheets and reports, and presentations to the Commission and outside groups. The policy analyst will work in collaboration with senior Commission staff and other Foundation policy staff to develop Commission priorities and projects.

SPECIFIC TYPES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Master’s degree or a minimum of three years of experience in a related field;
• Substantial knowledge of federal and state health policy;
• Quantitative research experience and familiarity with health policy data sources;
• Proficiency in SPSS, SAS or related statistical application preferred;
• Knowledge of web-based design and MS Office applications;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to work independently and efficiently on concurrent projects;
• Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal staff and outside contractors;
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
