Cancer Institute Research Assistant
Immediate position available, July 1, 2009, for undergraduate or graduate
student to work on a limited research basis in the GW Cancer Institute in
the Office of Cancer Prevention and Control. Office has a primary interest
in population-based oriented research.
The GW Cancer Institute is looking for a student interested in research and
publications.
The student will have the opportunity to learn the following computer
programs:
Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Program (SEER) from NCI
Microsoft Office (Excel mostly)
Graph Pad/Graph Stat
R stat 2.7.1
Competencies: Adequate writing skills
(writing sample may be requested)
Basic statistics working knowledge
(variance, confidence intervals, etc)
Well spoken and articulate
(must be able to converse with faculty and doctors)
Time dedication (estimated percentages based per 20 hr work week):
- Retrieval of data from SEER Program [30%]
- Searching medical literature online (PudMed/Medline) or at GW library
[4%]
- Calculating and organizing data [60%]
- Attending scientific seminars/talks of interest (optional) [1%]
- Writing/revising manuscripts [5%]
Requirement: Must be available for weekly meetings with the Director,
Office of Cancer Prevention and Control, fellow collaborators and GW
physicians to discus papers and projects.

Post Graduate Fellowship at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation Winter Cohort 2010 Call for applications The Post?Graduate Fellowship is a highly intellectual, structured, and focused didactic program where talented researchers can leverage their expertise to help advance the field of health metrics. Strong candidates for this program have graduate?level training in quantitative methodology from one of the following areas: health policy, economics, mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, health services, demography, engineering, physics, medical sciences, or other related fields. The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation is a new organization at the University of The purpose of the Fellowship is to: IHME fellows work in one or two of the six key areas: Fellows receive training through on?the?job research, methods workshops, access to University of Washington courses, and on?site lectures and seminars. Post?Graduate Fellows contribute directly to IHME’s research agenda through their involvement in work groups, development of new methods, and managing and driving research projects to meet deliverables. Post?Graduate Fellowships are appointed at IHME for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year upon mutual agreement. The salary is $50,000. As University of Washington employees fellows are eligible for an insurance benefits package that includes a choice among several medical and dental insurance plans, life insurance, and long?term disability.
