| What's best about the School of Public Health and Health Services at GW?
The school of Public Health has a very personal feel in the middle of the city. With only 60 students in the undergraduate program, you have the opportunity to get to know professors and advisors personally and receive personal advice on course and career decisions. The small size also makes so many opportunities available through listserv emails about internships, seminars and volunteering. |
| What's best about living in the Washington, DC Area?
Washington, DC is home to numerous influential national health organizations. Many professors also do work in the city and it is not uncommon to have speakers from USAID, lawyers or representatives from government organizations present in class. As students, we benefit greatly from having book knowledge combined with the experience of those already working the field that we one day hope to enter. It is inspiring to be in a city with so much energy and change going on all around. |
My message to applicants:
Public Health is a broad but fascinating field covering everything from biology to sociology. Politics is also a huge part of the field and Washington, DC is the perfect place to become directly involved in your field of study outside of the books. The school of Public Health at GW has provided me with a personal education and given me insight into what I will do with my degree. I love being part of academically adventurous community in the middle of an incredible city and would recommend the program to anyone with a passion for making a change in the world. |

| What's best about the School of Public Health and Health Services at GW?
The professors- all are uniquely qualified and have very interesting and impressive careers outside of teaching at GW.
Also, each course has a diverse curriculum which is great as it allows you to get experience in the many of the numerous fields that make up public health. I never feel bored with my classes as each offers new insights and views into the world of health care and community health. I would recommend SPHHS to someone who is unsure of what they plan to do as a career as the school offers a glimpse into a huge number of areas including politics, economics, international affairs, biology, sociology and many others.

| What's best about living in the Washington, DC Area?
The diversity in the people and the places. Each part of D.C. has its own unique vibe. And I like how when I walk to class I don't feel like I am just part of the college scene. |
My message to applicants:
Finding the school of public health was my most important accomplishment at GW. I have developed a drive to learn not just so I can ace my tests but so I can really be immersed in this field. I find myself drawing others into conversations about health and how it impacts our world on a daily basis. Before I entered into this major I had no idea which direction I was going but now I have a true passion for something which is an aspect of this experience that goes beyond school. |
