Welfare reform
Brief Project Description
CHSRP has been at the forefront of analyzing the impact of welfare reform on the health system in general, and on the Medicaid program in particular. Its research projects have grown out of its early and groundbreaking analysis of the federal Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996. Specific research topics include:
- Analyzing the impact of welfare reform legislation on health care access.
- Analyzing the effect of welfare and immigration reform on access to Medicaid and health care services.
- Analyzing the impact of welfare reform on Medi-Cal enrollment.
- Assessing state compliance with Medicaid requirements in welfare reform.
- Analyzing the influence of stigma on Medicaid enrollment.
