Immunization Law and Policy

Brief Project Description

With support from the CDC's National Immunization Program, this project provides research and technical assistance on immunization law and policy in order to improve standards for immunization coverage and performance in children and adults. A special focus is on public or contractual standards for public and private health insurance and for residential institutional health care providers. Studies have included:

  • Immunization coverage requirements for children and adults under state health insurance laws.
  • Coverage standards for adults under state Medicaid plans and managed care contracts.
  • Coverage practices under the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program and other public employee health benefit plans.
  • Laws establishing conditions of program participation and facility licensure for nursing and other long-term-care facilities.

Technical assistance tools are made available to state policymakers, program administrators and others, including model immunization coverage statutes for each state and personal, hands-on support.
