In 2007, the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation collaborated to create the EGPAF/GWU Partnership for Pediatric AIDS and Public Health. The objectives of the Partnership are to provide technical leadership and expertise in support of EGPAF's global pediatric HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment activities; and to create innovative educational opportunities for Foundation staff and University students. To date, GW faculty have helped to lead the development of EGPAF's five-year strategic plan; are currently recruiting faculty and students to provide technical assistance at EGPAF headquarters in Washington DC, have hired an Executive Coordinator for the Partnership, are provided technical assistance for the evaluation of EGPAF's HIV/AIDS treatment program in Africa, are discussing providing expertise for monitoring and evaluation activities; are creating a program to provide sponsored graduate level training opportunities at GW for EGPAF staff; and have created a doctoral fellowship in pediatric HIV/AIDS epidemiology (first fellow currently being recruited to begin in summer 2008).
