Effectiveness of Spirituality and Medicine Education Program at GWUMC

Brief Project Description

Sponsor: The Templeton Foundation
Principal Investigator: Sean D. Cleary, PhD, MPH
This is a longitudinal study following a cohort of medical students though four years of medical school training and for one year following residency. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of medical training in spirituality history taking, using the FICA, and spiritual care. The cohort includes all students in the class of 2007 entering medical school in 2003 at The George Washington University Medical School. To date, the impact of spiritual and medical training has not been evaluated and The George Washington University will be the first medical school at which this evaluation will be conducted. We expect that the methodology used here will be implemented at other medical schools that have training in spiritual and medical care.
