Canadian Spirituality and Medicine Curricular Awards

The goal of this planning grant is to design a framework for an awards program in spirituality and medicine curricula for medical schools in Canada. The specific objectives of the project are to: work with the Advisory Board to reach a consensus regarding the definition of spirituality to be used in the Canadian curricular awards program; identify learning objectives for courses in spirituality and medicine; define the structure of the curricular awards (i.e., smaller grants with more awards; larger grants with fewer awards); establish award criteria; specify the methods of judging to be used in evaluating proposals; specify the methods for disseminating information about the Canadian Curricular Award Program in Spirituality and Medicine; specify the methods for program evaluation; establish measurable outcome criteria; identify key medical educators and opinion leaders to approach for endorsement and partnerships; identify venues for announcing the award winner (conference, presentation, journals); plan public relations activities to promote the awards; and complete a systematic review of the research literature pertaining to spirituality and medicine; and conduct research on spirituality and medicine in Canada.
