Arts-Based Initiative for the Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls
Brief Project Description
Lead Investigator: Susan Blake, PhD
One of ten collaborating "Demonstration Projects for the Early Intervention and Prevention of Sexual Violence and Intimate Partner Violence among Racial and Ethnic Minority Populations," this initiative focuses on the public schools in Baltimore and brings together faculty, staff and students at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, The George Washington University School of Public Health, the Historic East Baltimore Community Action Coalition (HEBCAC), NuWorld Art Ensemble Violence Prevention Theatre Project, and the House of Ruth.
The overall purpose of this project is to further develop and evaluate a community- and school-based program to promote healthy relationships and prevent physical, emotional, and sexual dating violence among predominately African-American middle school adolescents in an urban setting. The evaluation of this intervention will increase understanding of the extent of dating violence among middle school-age adolescents.
