Advancing risk assessment for water quality issues

Brief Project Description

Through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Water, Dr. Parkin and her team developed a groundbreaking approach to risk assessment when drinking water is contaminated with microorganisms, which takes into account susceptible subpopulations that consume the water. Additionally, investigators evaluated the determinants of various drinking water exposure patterns within metropolitan Washington, DC as a model for intra-regional exposure assessments. Staff also produced publications on key biostatistical issues related to microbial risk assessment, pediatric immunotoxicity and chemical susceptibility, and chronic sequelae associated with drinking water concerns.
