American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), the economic stimulus, into law. The NIH will receive $10.4 billion to be spent by September 30, 2010. Most of the funding will be allocated to three buckets:

  1. NIH staff will examine previously submitted applications that were approved for funding in FY 2008 but unfunded to determine if two years of funding would result in significant scientific advances and if the research is in line with IC priorities,
  2. administrative as well as competitive supplements to existing grants,
  3. and two year NIH Challenge grants in areas of NIH Institute priorities. There will also be opportunities for equipment and construction projects. Below you can find a summary of more information on this.
