HIV is covered in the medical school during the course in Microbiology and Infectious Disease under the direction of Dr Afsoon Roberts, and HIV treatment is covered in the Pharmacology course. Most of the medical school teaching regarding HIV infection and its complications is done during the third and fourth year through both didactic and hands-on experience.
Residents, as part, of their infectious disease training are taught about the management of HIV-infection and its complications; with more extensive and detailed instruction provided to Infectious Disease fellows. Resident and Fellow instruction is provided by the faculty of the Division of Infectious Diseases under the direction of Dr Simon.
A Globalization Seminar on HIV/AIDS is offered by Drs Zea and Poppen to students who are admitted as Dean's Scholars.
A graduate seminar (Psychology 257, Psychology of Risk Taking Behavior) is offered by Prof Poppen – this focuses on a variety of approaches to understanding risk taking propensities, in which many of the topics, articles, and discussions focus on sexual behavior and HIV/AIDS.
