Dr. Faria Farhat is a licensed physician and Board-certified Infectious Diseases specialist. She completed her medical residency at Howard University Hospital, and currently she is working there as an Assistant Professor in College of Medicine. Dr. Farhat has had a long term interest in HIV/AIDS, antibiotics, and tropical diseases. She was awarded Certificate of Achievement for scholarly activity by Howard University Hospital in June, 2005, and presented abstracts at many local and National Conferences. Dr. Farhat has also received awards for her work from the American College of Physicians and Southern Medical Association. She has been actively involved in providing medical care to patients with HIV. She is interested in finding ways to improve clinical care of minority patients infected with HIV. Her research interests include Anti retro viral agents, Mycobacterial infections, Kidney disease, cardiovascular disease and mental health in HIV patients. Dr. Farhat is involved in many HIV/AIDS related research projects and is collaborating in intra-university clinical trials. She also has a passion for teaching and training which led to her role as Clinical Director of National Minority AIDS Education and Training Center. Working with Eurasian Medical Education Program of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Farhat helped Russian physicians develop curriculum for "Management of Opportunistic Infections in HIV Patients" at Far Eastern State Medical University, Khabarovsk, Russia. This program was funded by USAID. Her future goal is to become more involved in larger clinical HIV/AIDS trials to better serve the clinical needs of these complex minority patients and teach other clinicians as well about the best clinical practices. |
