Marcia J. Wilson is a Research Scientist in the Department of Health Policy and a Research Instructor in the Department of Health Services Management and Leadership at The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.

Professor Wilson's expertise centers on the relationship between health care financing mechanisms and the delivery of health care services. Her research in this area is a natural outgrowth of her 20 years of experience as a financial analyst and administrator in a range of private sector health care settings, combined with the interest in health policy that she has pursued since joining the SPHHS faculty in 1999.

Professor Wilson serves as deputy director of two Robert Wood Johnson Foundation national programs, both housed in the Department of Health Policy. Expecting Success: Excellence in Cardiac Care was developed to improve the quality of cardiovascular health care for minority Americans, while Urgent Matters helps hospitals improve patient flow and reduce crowding in emergency departments and guides communities in assessing their health care safety nets. She has also been involved with projects designed to integrate HIV prevention services into primary care settings and to study the factors that contribute to uncompensated HIV care. Professor Wilson is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in health services administration at GW's School of Business.

Research

Professor Wilson's main research interests focus on health care delivery systems, the financing of health care services and the use of quality improvement methods to improve patient care processes.

Community Service

Professor Wilson is a board member of the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
