Karyn Pomerantz, MLS, MPHKaryn L. Pomerantz is a Research Scientist and Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Prevention and Community Health at The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.
Professor Pomerantz's professional and personal interests are driven by the same powerful commitment - to fight racism and injustice. "Public health epitomizes this struggle by focusing on the conditions that contribute to health," she says, explaining her work in support of living wage legislation and other labor-related benefits, as an advocate for HIV and AIDS services and as a critic of biodeterminism. As Principal Investigator of Health Information Partners, Professor Pomerantz guides an outreach coalition of 18 community and university groups working to reduce disparities in access to health information for poor and underserved residents. She is also the GW coordinator of a project led by the MidAtlantic Public Health Training Center of Johns Hopkins University, which organizes professional development for public health workers in metropolitan Washington, DC. In addition, Professor Pomerantz is a consultant and trainer to the Primary Care Coalition of Montgomery County, which has equipped its health centers with electronic scientific databases designed to give safety net providers more efficient access to health information.
