Jerome Paulson, MDJerome A. Paulson is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health and in the Department of Prevention and Community Health at The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.
As a clinician, a researcher and an advocate, Dr. Paulson works to enhance children's health, and particularly to identify and mitigate the impact of environmental hazards on pediatric populations. He is co-director of the Mid-Atlantic Center for Children's Health and Environment (MACCHE), a federally-funded environmental health specialty unit affiliated with the Department of Environment and Occupational Health that provides education and outreach to health professionals, parents and the community. Dr. Paulson has served as a special assistant to the director of CDC's National Center on Environmental Health, again focusing on children, and in 2000 received a Soros Advocacy Fellowship for Physicians from the Open Society Institute. Dr. Paulson also holds a faculty appointment as an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics GW's School of Medicine & Health Sciences. A practicing pediatrician, he provides care to children and families in a setting that includes managed care, fee-for-service and Medicaid patients, which gives him firsthand experience with the complexities of reimbursement system. Prior to joining the SPHHS faculty in 1997, Dr. Paulson was the first executive director of Research!America, which educates the public about the importance of medical research. He serves on the environmental health committee of the Physicians for Social Responsibility and has been active on the steering committee of the Washington, DC Lead Summit and previously served on the board of directors of the National Center for Health Housing.
