SPHHS is pleased to welcome several new faculty members who have been appointed since Spring 2009.
Sarah Baird, PhD
Assistant Professor of Global Health
Professor Baird's extensive research experience includes impact evaluation and fieldwork in Kenya, Vietnam and Malawi. Her interests lie in the areas of program evaluation, health care financing, and health and development economics.
Mary Barron, PhD
Assistant Professor of Exercise Science
Professor Barron's research interests encompass children's health, exercise science, athletic training and youth injury prevention.
Angelo Elmi, PhD
Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Professor Elmi's research interests include data analysis issues for repeated measurement and longitudinal data, as well as mixed effects models.
Bianca Frogner, PhD
Assistant Professor of Health Services Management and Leadership
Professor Frogner's expertise includes health economics, health care financing and global health. She is particularly interested in cross-national comparisons of health systems in industrialized countries, a hot topic as the U.S. debates health care reform.
In the area of cardiovascular disease, Dr. Hamm is interested in cardiac rehabilitation program models, outcomes and clinical exercise testing. He has also researched applications of exercise testing, physical activity and cardiovascular risk reduction to individuals with spinal cord injury.
Kathleen Jablonski, PhD
Assistant Research Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Jablonksi's research interest lies in the area of diabetes management, including the linkages between genes and the development of type 2 diabetes.
Shelita Merchant, PhD
Assistant Research Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Professor Merchant's areas of research include social epidemiology, health disparities, sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, gender and power, and adolescent health and development.
Celeste Monforton, DrPH, MPH
Assistant Research Professor, Environmental and Occupational Health
Dr. Monforton's research interests focus on occupational injury and illness epidemiology, prevention strategies, regulatory policies and the precautionary use of evidence to reduce population risk to environmental hazards.
Wendy O'Meara, PhD
Assistant Professor of Global Health
Professor O'Meara's interests lie in epidemiology and infectious disease, and she has expertise in translating research data into tools for evidence-based public health planning. She will be stationed in Kenya.
Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Assistant Professor of Health Policy, Parrish wears several hats. His expertise is in health disparities, leadership and HIV.
Elizabeth Anne Peterson, MD, MPH
Research Professor of Global Health
A physician and health administrator, Dr. Peterson is an international health expert with expertise in community health, women's health and evaluation research.
Jane Thorpe, JD
Associate Research Professor of Health Policy
Professor Thorpe's research focuses on the intersection of health care law and policy in the areas of health care delivery systems and financing with a particular focus on Medicare and Medicaid, health information technology privacy issues, performance measurement and improvement, and medical innovation.
Amanda Visek, PhD
Assistant Professor of Exercise Science
Dr. Visek's research interests include sport performance enhancement, sport aggression, youth sport, and exercise psychology. Her current studies focus on the relationships among athletic identity, anger, and aggression; parental sideline aggression and the efficacy of youth sport parent education programs; and cross-cultural aspects of sport aggression.
