Research
The primary focus of Dr. Magnus's research is HIV/AIDS among women, children, adolescents and other vulnerable populations, and includes clinical trials, observational studies, behavioral surveillance, and innovative approaches to evaluation research. A side interest is maternal-child health, specifically infertility and decision-making behavior among pregnant women. Dr. Magnus is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance study, conducted as a part of the Public Health-Academic Partnership between GWU Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the District of Columbia Department of Health/HIV/AIDS Administration. As a part of this Partnership, Dr. Magnus is the Co-PI of an evaluation of the District of Columbia Routine Testing Initiative. With collaborators in Louisiana, Dr. Magnus is evaluating the impact of a statewide electronic database for linkage of TB-, syphilis-, and HIV-infected individuals seeking care in Louisiana as a part of a HRSA/HAB SPNS grant as well as the evaluation of a statewide telemedicine program in the state of Louisiana. Also with HRSA/HAB SPNS funds, she directs the multi-site evaluation of eight programs that are developing innovative methods for outreach, linkage, and retention in care of HIV-infected adolescents of color.
Community Service
Dr. Magnus has been a member of site operations committees of the national Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Group, served on the Tulane University Committee on Use of Human Subjects, on the Maternal-Child Community Advisory Board, and on the WORD UP/NHBS Community Advisory Board.
