John Grossman, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H

John H. Grossman is a Professor in the Department of Prevention and Community Health and the Department of Health Services Management and Leadership at The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. He also holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

As an obstetrician/gynecologist, Professor Grossman brings a longstanding interest in pregnancy outcomes, especially the impact of maternal infection on birth, to his public health work in the areas of women's health advocacy and primary prevention. For three decades a GW loyalist, Dr. Grossman has been a faculty member at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences since 1976, and also completed his fellowship in maternal/fetal medicine and his master's and doctoral degrees here. Dr. Grossman was instrumental in many of the processes that led to the creation of SPHHS and has twice won its Excellence in Teaching Award. He currently holds additional appointments as Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Tropical Medicine and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Author of more than 120 scientific papers, abstracts and books, and principal investigator of some 25 scientific projects, Dr. Grossman has published on diagnosing and treating numerous infections in pregnancy, including chlamydia, rubella, HIV and herpes. He developed a community-based curriculum on women's health promotion for health care professionals and a pilot course in women's health policy for fellows of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecology.

Professor Grossman has chaired, or served on, committees of the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
