Larry Hamm, PhD

With three decades of experience in the field of cardiac rehabilitation and clinical exercise physiology, Professor Hamm brings a breadth of clinical knowledge and administrative expertise into the classroom. "My experiences have shown me the knowledge, skills and abilities that are valued by the employer of clinical exercise physiologists," he says. "I try to emphasize these practical aspects in my teaching in order to prepare students for future employment."

After many years directing hospital-based, community-based and office-based cardiac rehabilitation programs in Minnesota and Toronto, Dr. Hamm joined the SPHHS faculty in 2000, initially in a full-time capacity, and soon after earned the Department's Excellence in Teaching Award. He is now an adjunct here, having accepted an appointment as Program Director of the Washington Heart Medical Fitness and Wellness Center and Senior Research Scientist in the Christoph Reusch Neuroscience Research Center at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, DC. Dr. Hamm also holds an appointment at Georgetown University, where he is Associate Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at the Medical Center.
