Muhiuddin Haider, PhD, MA, MS

From Asia and the Middle East, to sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America, Professor Haider has worked on the ground to strengthen the health systems of developing nations. While the senior-level managerial, financial and technical expertise he brings to his tasks are essential, so, too, is his unique ability to communicate. Following a recent series of discussions he led in Tajikistan about the risk of HIV/AIDS, U.S. State Department officials praised Dr. Haider's "easygoing, approachable style and clear manner of presenting information" and his ability to maintain "good rapport with audiences from every sector." Among his areas of special expertise are health communications, infrastructure development, training, capacity building and health care reform, with an emphasis on reproductive health, family planning, AIDS prevention, maternal and neonatal health, child survival and water management.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Professor Haider is senior associate of the School's Center for Global Health. He also serves as adjunct faculty at Johns Hopkins University's School for Advanced International Studies, where he teaches courses on HIV/AIDS prevention and communication, and as a visiting professor in health communication at the James P. Grant School of Public Health at BRAC University in Bangladesh. Dr. Haider, a native of Bangladesh, was country representative for Nepal for the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Program, leading USAID-funded public health activities in behavior change and has also served as training director for the Pakistan Private Sector Population Program.
