Taylor Burke, JD, LLM

An expert in legal and policy issues as they relate to health information technology and bioethics, Professor Burke joined the School's faculty in 2003. Previously, he was an associate at the law firm of Hogan and Hartson L.L.P., where he practiced FDA law and general litigation, and handled numerous pro bono cases. The focus of Professor Burke's intellectual pursuits is the intersection of health policy and the law, with a particular interest in the rights of the disabled, about which he has written extensively.

While studying for his degrees, Professor Burke collected an eclectic set of work experiences, including living and working with disabled children in Poland through Project Hope; sports reporting for USA Today, for whom he covered the Baltimore Orioles; and managing a restaurant in a small Wyoming town. He has also worked pro bono for the Children's Law Center of Washington, DC, assisting foster families to complete the formal adoption process; worked for the Washington Olympic Exploratory Committee in its attempt to gain the Olympic Games; and interned at Merrill Lynch. Professor Burke says his wide range of experience has had great influence on his world view. "I've come to believe that community-centered initiatives - whether they focus on health or other important needs -serve as the most effective means through which to address social concerns," he says.
