The faculty and students of the Public Health Communication and Marketing are currently involved in many public health service activities. These activities include (but are not limited to):
Assisting Nemours Health and Prevention Services – a Delaware–based non–profit organization – to develop a multi–faceted communication, marketing and policy advocacy campaign which seeks to change Delaware's communities in a number of important ways that will help prevent youth obesity.
Assisting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in designing and pilot-testing a social marketing campaign that seeks to engage middle school–aged girls in weight bearing physical activities and improved nutrition.
Assisting the newly created Charlie Guild Melanoma Foundation in developing and implementing a strategic plan focused on promoting national- and state-level sun safety policy changes, health care professional education, and consumer awareness.
Assisting the National Academies in identifying ways to better explain that belief in evolution and religious faith are not incompatible, so as to cultivate a supportive environment for strong science education in public schools.
Assisting the Arthritis Foundation in planning and implementing a major national effort to get older adults with osteoarthritis into an evidence-based behavioral management program that reduces pain and improves disease outcome.
Reviewing manuscripts for a number of peer-reviewed journals, including Social Science and Medicine, the Journal of Health Communication, American Journal of Health Behavior, American Journal of Preventive Medicine, American Journal of Health Promotion.
Serving on the editorial committee of the DC Cancer Consortium.
Volunteering at the 2006 Health & Fitness Expo (sponsored by NBC), during which more than 78,000 DC metro residents and visitors participated in health screenings and learned about health and fitness.
Presenting to student groups on the GWU campus to teach about sexual health and STI prevention.
Forming a GW student group with a focus on sexual assault prevention and education.
