Quarterly Lecture SeriesWe host a Quarterly Lecture Series on Public Health Communication and Marketing as a service to our partners and all interested parties in our community. These one hour lectures – which will be scheduled on the second Wednesday of every quarter (or the nearest appropriate alternative date) during the noon hour – will feature provocative speakers whose work is helping to define or refine the practice of public health communication and marketing. Seminar SeriesPublic health increasingly recognizes the potential of Health Communication and Marketing (HCM) to promote healthy behavior change on diverse topics from malaria prevention to tobacco control. The field of HCM is dynamic and continuously evolving. Researchers are developing new approaches to promote and evaluate behavior change in a context of increased disease burden and innovations in media and information technology. This seminar series addresses what we know about HCM, what's happening in the field, and the future of HCM. The series consists of focused symposia on major topics of interest in HCM including specific behaviors, disease conditions, communication and marketing strategies, research methodologies, and technology and other societal trends. Each symposium will be held from 4:30-6:00pm in Ross Hall (2300 "Eye" Street, NW) on the George Washington University campus. Photo ID is required. Sessions will include presentations from 2-3 speakers on the topic of the day, followed by a town hall-style discussion. CEU will be awarded for CHES, Social Work, and Nursing. National Capital Area SOPHE has awarded 2.5 Category I CHES credits for this activity. Please make checks for $10 payable to NCASOPHE. Checks will be the only form of payment accepted for CEU. To listen to the audio of the symposium, click here.(large) Conversations on Social MarketingOn November 5-6, 2007, we worked with Population Services International (PSI) to co-host a two-day forum on social marketing, held at the Jack Morton Auditorium. Titled Conversations on Social Marketing, the event featured four speakers who presented on different aspects and real-world applications of social marketing. Each session was concluded with a discussion led by Craig Lefebvre, PSI's Chief Technical Officer and an adjunct instructor in the Department of Prevention and Community Health.
