HSML Scholarships

A number of scholarships and Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA) positions are available to HSML students:

  • Shouldice Scholarship

    The Shouldice Scholarship commemorates the contributions to The George Washington University and the long-standing commitment of Robert G. Shouldice, DBA, to the Health Services Management and Leadership Program. Robert G. Shouldice served as a student, member of the faculty, program advisor, health care author and leader in the Ambulatory Care Management field.

  • Gibbs Scholarship

    The Frederick Harrell Gibbs Scholarship commemorates the legacy of Frederick Harrell Gibbs.

  • Ryan Scholarship

    The Ryan Award commemorates the commitment of Jack Ryan and Anne Ryan in their support of The George Washington University Healthcare Management program in its formative years. The scholarship acknowledges their contributions in health care consulting, consideration to GW students and residents, and for the family members they supported through the GW program.

  • Shorr Scholarship

    The Shorr Leadership Prize commemorates the commitment of Arthur S. Shorr, Class of 1970, to students of The George Washington University Program in Health Services Management and Leadership. This award recognizes professional responsibility of an individual that assists early professionals in career development. The Shorr Scholarship acknowledges a deserving student that invests time, effort and energy to excel in health services management and policy.

  • Gintzig Scholarship

    The Leon I. Gintzig, PhD Scholarship commemorates the legacy of Leon I Gintzig, PhD, who came to The George Washington University as an associate professor in the Department of Hospital Administration. In 1964, he was promoted to full professor and in 1967 became Chairman of GWU's Department of Health Care Administration. In 1979, he was named associate dean in GWU's School of Government and Business Administration.

  • Wertlieb Scholarships

    A number of scholarships are available to students who are interested in the field of Long-Term Care or Post-Acute Care (e.g., administration of nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, or assisted living centers). The scholarships were made available by Harvey Wertlieb, a graduate of the program and early leader in the field of long-term care.

  • Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA) positions

    A number of GAA positions are available for students to work 10-20 hours a week in the Department. Positions are awarded to students with an excellent academic record and commitment to the program. GAAs acquire valuable administrative and research experience in the assistance they provide to professors and the Department's various committees and initiatives.

Long Term Care Academic Award
The Wertlieb Institute provides academic award opportunities to qualified long term care (LTC) students. Academic awards include: tuition-3.5 semester credit hours for 4 semesters, and a graduate administrative assistantship at the Wertlieb Institute, earning $10/hr-10 hours per week.

Students who enroll in a two-year program to earn a Master in Health Services Administration (MHSA) with a focus on LTC will be eligible to receive these awards.

Students who are eligible for this academic award must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. No specific undergraduate major or professional area of expertise is required.

Linda Wertlieb Scholarship for Women
The Wertlieb family would like to announce the creation of a yearly scholarship in honor of Linda Wertlieb. This $10,000 per year award will be available beginning in the fall of 2003 to qualified women scholars interested in long-term care.
