WELCOME

Welcome to the Center for HIV/AIDS Epidemiologic Biostatistics and Public Health Laboratory Research website!

The District of Columbia has the highest rates of HIV/AIDS infection in the United States, and the headquarters of numerous HIV/AIDS organizations are located in Washington, DC. Accordingly, there is both the need and opportunity to develop HIV/AIDS-related research activities in Washington, DC. Over the past four years, the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services has developed a comprehensive HIV/AIDS research portfolio in collaboration with various domestic and international partners and funding agencies.

Currently in the Department, ten faculty members, 15 research and administrative staff members and 24 students receive external funding to work on HIV/AIDS research, and it is anticipated that these numbers will continue to grow in the months and years ahead. Accordingly, the Center for HIV/AIDS Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health Laboratory Research (the "Center") was founded in May 2009 and chartered by the University, to bring the faculty and staff working on HIV/AIDS research projects in the Department into a single Center with the following goals.

CENTER GOALS:

  1. To contribute to the reduction of HIV/AIDS morbidity and mortality both locally in Washington, DC and globally.
  2. To serve as a Center of Excellence for HIV/AIDS-related epidemiology, biostatistics and public health laboratory research at The George Washington University.
  3. To promote training in HIV/AIDS research that will contribute to the development of the next generation of HIV/AIDS researchers.
  4. To promote scientific collaboration with HIV/AIDS researchers throughout GW and Washington, DC.

This website summarizes Center HIV/AIDS research and training activities.
