Urgent Matters

Brief Project Description

Urgent Matters is a $6.4 million national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation launched in 2003 to help hospitals eliminate emergency department crowding and to help communities understand the challenges facing the health care safety net. The program has three specific goals:

  • To improve the ability of health care safety net providers to respond to increasing volume in the emergency department.
  • To assess and highlight the state of local safety nets in select communities.
  • To publicize the program's findings to local and national audiences.

The Center for Health Services Research and Policy in the Department of Health Policy serves as the National Program Office (NPO) for Urgent Matters.
