Improving Quality Medication Management at School

Brief Project Description

Lead Investigator: Julia Lear, PhD
Using the work of the Committee on Quality of Health Care in America as a guide, the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools organized an invitational conference exploring issues of patient safety in medication management at school and produced a written report. Among the topics covered:

  • the unique characteristics of in-school medication administration;
  • the impact of school board policies, local and state law and regulations;
  • collaboration with community-based providers;
  • workforce supply and training issues;
  • the importance of integrating school-based medication management monitoring and quality improvement practices with larger health care quality improvement systems.
