DINNER WITH ALUMNI PROGRAM - INFORMATION FOR ALUMNI HOSTSWhat is the goal of the Dinner with Alumni program? The Dinner with Alumni is a University-wide program which provides an opportunity for students to meet alumni in a collegial and relaxed setting. These connections may lead to jobs or internships, sound advice, or friendship. We hope that students will draw inspiration from the professional, educational, philanthropic, and personal accomplishments of our alumni. At the same time, we think alumni hosts will benefit from meaningful connections with student participants and the opportunity to become more involved with SPHHS. How are dinners organized? The Office of Alumni Relations and the PHSA make reservations at an area restaurant, arrange for students to attend, and help plan the event. Our staff will work with you to make sure that both you and the students know what to expect and to answer any questions that you might have. Whenever possible, the Office of Alumni Relations tries to link students and alumni with similar academic, career, or personal interests. What are the host's responsibilities?Whether you are a recent alumnus just starting on your professional path, or an alumnus headed for the pinnacle of your career, your professional insights and experiences are invaluable to our current students. We are looking for alumni who are willing to share their professional accomplishments with students and who are interested in developing closer ties with the University community. The alumnus host is also asked to provide financial support for the dinner. The alumnus host, working with staff support from Alumni Relations, determines where the dinner is held. Dinners can be held in elegant restaurants, a local pizzeria, or in your own home. Generally, we prefer a dinner location that is in the Foggy Bottom area or easily accessible by Metro. The total cost of the dinner is considered an "in-kind" contribution to SPHHS and is fully tax-deductible. How do I host a dinner? If you are an alumnus who would like to volunteer to host a group of students for dinner, please contact the GWUMC Office of Alumni Relations at alumni@gwumc.edu. |
