Coming by Air?

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is the closest to campus (6 miles away) and serves flights coming in from the US and Canada. The Metro Blue Line goes directly from the airport to the Foggy Bottom/GW Metro Station.

Washington Dulles International Airport is located in Virginia about 20 miles from GW.

  • If you're travelling during peak hours Mon-Fri, Metro runs a shuttle bus to the West Falls Church Metro station. Find that, and from West Falls Church Metro station take an Orange Line train in the direction of "New Carrollton."
  • The Foggy Bottom - GWU station is seven stops away.
  • If you're not arriving during peak hours, be prepared to fork over a lot of money for a cab or shuttle to DC - you might even be better off renting a car. As an cost-saving alternative, you could ask the cabdriver to take you to West Falls Church Metro Station, and then take Metro from there.

Baltimore Washington International Airport is located in Maryland about 33 miles from GW.

  • BWI operates a free shuttle to the BWI Amtrak/MARC station most times of the day, 7 days a week.
  • MARC (commuter rail run by the state of Maryland) operates trains to Union Station Mon-Fri most times of day and tickets are $5.
  • If you're coming or going on Saturday, Amtrak trains to and from Union Station are generally $12-13.
  • Once you're at Union Station, follow the "Coming by Train" directions, below.
  • If you're coming at very strange hours from BWI, there are some moderately expensive buses and taxis that can take you into DC, or more cheaply to the Amtrak station.

Coming by Train?

If you are arriving in Washington DC by rail at Amtrak's Union Station Terminal, take the Metro (Metrorail) to Metro Center and transfer to either the Orange or Blue Line to the Foggy Bottom/GW Metro Station
