Dr. Kathy Hunting to Assume New Position as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

posted: January 17, 2008, 11:15 AM

Dean Ruth Katz announced this week that Dr. Kathy Hunting will be appointed as the School's new Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.  She will replace Dr. John Palen, who is leaving SPHHS at the end of January.  Dr. Hunting currently serves as the SPHHS Associate Dean for Student and Faculty Development.  Dr. Hunting will step down from that position on January 30th when she assumes her new duties and responsibilities as the School's chief academic officer.

Dr. Hunting has been a member of the SPHHS faculty for almost two decades and brings a wealth of experience and commitment to her new job. Dr. Hunting has been involved with curriculum development and evaluation at both the departmental and School level for some time and continues to teach courses in two of the School's seven departments.  Over the past four years, as associate dean of students and faculty, she has also worked closely with Dr. Palen on numerous academic issues, making her very well prepared for a smooth transition into the academic dean position.

Dean Katz commented that, "I am confident that Dr. Hunting will do a superb job in her new role and with all of us working together, I am also confident that we will continue to make great progress in building and strengthening the School's academic enterprise.  When you have a moment, please join me in congratulating Dr. Hunting on her appointment and wishing Dr. Palen all the best as he begins the next phase of his public health career."
