
The Division of Body Imaging (link) offers a one-year clinical fellowship in CT, MR, and US imaging and intervention of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis.
The fellow has graduated responsibility and acts under the direct supervision of the faculty members of the Division of Body Imaging that includes three fellowship-trained abdominal imagers. The fellow is responsible for all aspects of the MR examination including patient triage, protocols, monitoring of examinations, exam interpretation and dictation. The fellow will also be expected to participate in resident education daily and participate in monthly multi-disciplinary conferences with an attending. Fellows may also attend daily didactic radiology lectures conducted by the residency.
Three months of elective time are provided. The majority of fellows spend this time on the MSK MRI service, on the PET-CT service, or Neuroradiology, but other electives such as Interventional Radiology or Breast Imaging may be arranged upon request.
The Radiology Department is filmless with comprehensive Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) utilizing a Dominator system.
We currently utilize three high field magnet systems. We utilize a Twin Speed 1.5 T GEmagnet and an Echo Speed GE magnet at the GW Hospital. Our outpatient facility also contains a Echo Speed 1.5T GE. The body MRI volume is growing immensely with a special imaging interest in gastrointestinal and urologic areas.
We currently have three multi-slice GE CT scanners ranging from 64 slice to 8 slice speeds. The fellows will receive training in multi-slice CT and CT angiography as well as 2 and 3-D reconstructions on a variety of workstations. Training in CT-enterography will also be provided. An opportunity to participate in CT guided interventions can also be acquired on this service.
The Ultrasound service consists of 5 Philips US units. The fellow will get extensive experience with routine abdominal work, obstetrical, and pelvic ultrasound and perform a variety of ultrasound guided procedures.
One position is offered each year. There are 21 vacation days and 4 days for CME. In addition, there is a generous benefit package with including a vested 403(b) retirement plan. In-house weekend moonlighting is available.
