Research

There are several active research programs in the Department of Pathology. Much of the ongoing research is centered on HIV-related topics, cancer pathogenesis and diagnosis, and tissue banking. The East Coast AIDS and Cancer Specimen Resource, headquartered in the Department of Pathology, is an NIH-supported biorepository in place in the department continuously for the past eighteen years. A similar biorepository for prostate cancer specimens is housed in the department. Over the past several years, members of the faculty have been involved in a variety of important studies dealing with a variety of carcinomas, including breast, prostate, lung, ovary, uterus, and the gastrointestinal tract, as well as lymphomas and other hematologic neoplasms.
