The Master Teacher Leadership Development Program is open to all faculty in medicine, health
sciences and the basic sciences. Prerequisites for admission to the Program include:
- An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.75
- A completed application packet
- Support of the division or department chair for participation in the Program
Individuals interested in admission to the Master Teacher Leadership Development Program must
complete an application, and be free from clinical and other responsibilities during scheduled
class sessions.
The Program consists of six courses (18 credit hours) taken over a one-year period. Classes meet
on Wednesday afternoons beginning in July and culminating the following June. Master Teacher Leadership
Development scholars should expect to spend 12-15 hours per week in class or preparing assignments.
Graduates receive a Graduate Certificate in Leadership Development from the Graduate School of
Education and Human Development. The 18 credit hours earned may be applied toward a Master
of Arts in Education and Human Development.
For the duration of the Program, scholars must attend classes regularly and maintain a minimum
overall 3.0 GPA.
Tuition benefits apply for eligible SMHS faculty; however, scholars are responsible for University
fees and textbooks.
Applications are currently being accepted for Cohort 8, which will complete orientation and begin
classes in July 2009. This cohort will complete the Program in June 2010.
