March 28, 2011 - Ali Ramezani, Ph.D., Assistant Research Professor of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology, awarded a $50,000 grant for his project, titled "Anti-HIV-1 Erythrocyte Viral Trap". The grant is funded through the Pilot Projects Award program of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at Children’s National Medical Center (CTSI-CN) in partnership with GWU, supported by NIH's National Center for Research Resources. March 23, 2011 - Mary Ann Stepp, Ph.D., Professor of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology and of Ophthamology, received the 2011 GWU Medical Center Distinguished Researcher Award at the 16th Annual GWUMC Research Day. The Distinguished Researcher Award is awarded annually to honor a member of the faculty for outstanding research achievements as demonstrated by the quality and significance of the faculty member’s work and the individual’s track record of biomedical, public health and health services research. September 28, 2007 - Mary Ann Stepp, Ph.D., Professor of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology and of Ophthamology, awarded 5-year NIHR01 grant worth $2.8 million: The renewal grant, titled "Molecular Aspects of Corneal Epithelial Migration", will support Dr. Stepp's studies focused on understanding how corneal epithelial stem cells are maintained within their niche in normal tissue homeostasis and during wound healing. September 13, 2007 - The Medical Center announced that the name of the Department had been officially changed to the "Department of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology" from the "Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology": The name change for the Department, which had been passed by the Medical Center Faculty Senate on September 5, 2007, reflects the major research efforts of current faculty members and will facilitate the recruitment of top-tier candidates who will engage in leading-edge research in stem cell and regenerative biology.

Chiaramello, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology, awarded NIHR01 grant worth $1 million: The renewal grant, titled "Transcriptional Dynamics of Neuronal Survival", will support Dr. Chiaramello's studies focused on dissecting the underlying mechanisms of the transcriptional network linking the neuronal survival pathway to the differentiation program. July 19, 2007 - Sally A.
