Students work and learn at affiliated public and private community hospitals and at the area's large military hospitals and facilities. Included are such general hospitals as Inova Fairfax Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, National Naval Medical Center, Providence Hospital, the Washington Hospital Center, the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia. There are also affiliations with such specialized institutions as Children's National Medical Center, the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute, and Psychiatric Institute of Washington. Medical Center students also have access to educational opportunities at other local federal medical facilities, including the National Institutes of Health, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and the National Library of Medicine. The City of Washington itself offers unique opportunities for students to observe government agencies, legislators, and private organizations as they work to influence the delivery of health care in our society.
