Postdoctoral Positions:
Positions are available at George Washington University Medical School, Dept. of Pharmacology and Physiology, to study the neurobiology of cardiac vagal neurons in the brainstem. Projects include examining the cellular mechanisms responsible for the respiratory modulation of cardiac parasympathetic activity in the brainstem, how pathways are recruited/ inhibited by hypoxia and hypercapnia, anesthetic actions on the synaptic pathways that control heart rate, and the role of opioid receptors in the regulation of brainstem cardiovascular neurons. Techniques include patch clamp electrophysiology in visualized brainstem slices, fluorescent anatomical tracing, adeno-associated virus expression of receptors, and in-vivo reflex studies. Electrophysiological experience helpful, but not required. Contact David Mendelowitz for more information.
