DC Chef Walks in Support of Women’s Heart Health The GW Women’s Heart Center has a new supporter in local chef and restaurateur, Ris Lacoste, who owns the Foggy Bottom restaurant, RIS. In a program called RIS Walk 60, Lacoste has taken to the streets to raise money for the GW Women’s Heart Center by walking along a designated route, beginning at her restaurant at 23rd and L Sts, NW, for an hour each day and asking supporters to pledge a dollar for every mile she walks. Institute of Biomedical Sciences Student Awarded Two-Year Fellowship from PhRMA Lindsay Garvin, a doctoral candidate pursuing a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology as part of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, a joint program with the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences and the GW Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, has been awarded a two-year research fellowship by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association of America (PhRMA) Foundation. GW Professor of Medicine Co-Authors Study of Spirituality in Medical Education in Journal of Religion and Health Christina Puchalski, M.D., director of the George Washington University Institute for Spirituality and Health (GWish) and professor of Medicine in the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences recently co-authored a report in The Journal of Religion and Health titled “Spirituality in Medical Education: Global Reality?” The report examines existing literature and studies that deal with the incorporation of spirituality in medical education and to list the most scientifically productive countries in this field. GW Doctors Perform Life Saving Surgery on Honduran Woman (video) Cynthia Tracy, M.D., professor of Medicine at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences and cardiologist at GW Hospital, discusses the surgery she and her colleagues performed to repair a hole in a 36-year old Honduran woman's heart at GW Hospital. The surgery had to performed in the United States, as the proper equipment was not available in Honduras, so the woman and her husband flew to DC with the help from the American and Honduran embassies.
