Research Interests

My research interests are the discovery, expression, purification and process development of antigens as vaccine candidates for testing in pre-clinical and clinical trials. I am now serving as the Director of the Protein Expression, Purification and Process Development group of the Human Hookworm Vaccine Initiative (HHVI), sponsored by Sabin Vaccine Institute and located at the George Washington University (GWU).

My lab has expertise in expression of proteins in Pichia pastoris and E. coli and their subsequent purification using various chromatographic techniques. My lab has successfully developed processes for the expression and purification of leading human hookworm vaccine candidate Na -ASP-2 for cGMP manufacturing. My lab successfully transferred the technology to WRAIR and oversaw cGMP manufacturing of Na-ASP-2, which is in Phase-I clinical trials. My lab is currently involved in process optimization for re-manufacturing of Na-ASP-2.

I am also interested in discovery of antigens of infectious diseases and cancer. I am applying phage display technology for the identification of protein biomarkers/antigens of HCV-associated liver cancer and HIV-1 promoted hepatocellular carcinoma, along with other collaborators at GWU.
