MED School Listserv Guidelines
The Med school listservs are moderated. All messages posted to the listservs are reviewed before being distributed. Messages are reviewed Monday – Friday, 3 times a day between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. For messages that require expedited distribution, call the Himmelfarb Library Reference Desk, 994-2850, during those hours.
Composing a message:
- Please use your GWMail account when sending emails to the listserv. This identifies you as an authorized user of the listserv.
- Subject line must contain a clear description of the message.
- For invitations to social events, please indicate in the email which person or organization connected with the GWU Medical Center is sponsoring the event. It could be you, in which case you need to write at the bottom your full name and class affiliation e.g. John Smith, Class of 2012.
- When sending attachments, please include a clear description of the attachment in the subject line or the body of the email.
Appropriate messages to medical student listservs include:
--Messages from the Dean's Office staff, instructors, class officers, and classmates with information pertaining to curricular activities.
--Messages that advertise GW-sponsored social events, meetings, and other business pertaining to student organizations, clubs, community service, research organizations, interest groups, or others requesting the support or participation of GW students.
--Messages regarding housing, roommates, and computers and automobiles for sale can be posted to the listserv only by GWUMC students for the use of other GWUMC students. Distribution of these messages may be suspended in case of risk to network infrastructure. These messages must meet the following conditions:
- Subject line must contain clear description of message.
Examples: Apartment Available: Virginia; Car for sale: 2008 Toyota Corolla; Roommate Wanted: D.C.; etc. - First line of message must contain contact information for the student sending the message including name and telephone number and/or email address.
Other items for sale, and announcements for an off-campus non-GW-related social event, can be posted on the bulletin boards at the entrance to the Library, or in the Ross Hall bulletin board area. Books for sale may not be advertised on the class listservs. You may like to consider advertising your books on the website: http://www.exchangeoncampus.com
