What is a Google Gadget?

A Google gadget is a mini-application that works with the Google Homepage (known as iGoogle), Google Desktop, Google Page Creator or any page on the web.

These mini-applications are of two types:

  • Universal gadgets: Work with the Google Homepage, Google Desktop, or your own webpage.
  • Desktop Gadgets: Work with Google Desktop.

Where can I use the Google Gadget?

You can imbed the gadget in:

  • Your iGoogle page (Google Personalized Homepage)
  • Google Desktop
  • Google Page Creator
  • Any webpage or blog

The gadget lets you search the library catalog from your Google Personalized Homepage (iGoogle), Google desktop or any webpage you have installed it in.

It is easy to use, no downloads and it lets you search the catalog via a shortcut without having to go through the library homepage.

You can search within the gadget by keyword and the list of results will display in a separate window.
