Get Writing Help
Do you have any tools or services that would help me organize my research projects from start to finish? Will this track journal articles I have found? Will it help me prepare a formatted bibliography?
Yes, RefWorks can help! RefWorks is an online tool that helps you manage, store, format and cite resources used in the research process. After you set up a RefWorks account (see question below on how to sign up for an account), you can easily save citation information by exporting it directly from a database, book catalog, or web site where you found it. When you're ready to write your paper, RefWorks can assist you with inserting your citations and creating your bibliography.
How do I sign up for a RefWorks account?
All GW faculty, students and staff are eligible to set up a RefWorks account. Before you sign up for an account, you must be logged in to the VPN. Once you are logged in, from the library homepage, click on the link to RefWorks, on the right hand side under "Quick Links." Then, click on the link to "Sign up for an Individual Account." Create a login and password, and click on the Register button to open and begin using the program.
How do I access RefWorks from off-campus?
There are two ways to access RefWorks from off-campus:
- Log into the VPN.
- Click on the link to RefWorks from the library homepage, and sign in through ALADIN.
Once I have a RefWorks account, how do I put my citations into RefWorks?
RefWorks allows you to add citations several ways: manually, directly from a database, capturing web page data using RefGrab-It, and searching and importing from library catalogs within RefWorks. More details are available in the Refworks help documentation, under the section titled "Getting References Into Your Account". This section includes specific instructions on how to import citations from various databases.
I have more questions about RefWorks. What should I do?
Take a look at the RefWorks help pages or the online tutorial. If you still have questions, contact a librarian at 202-994-2850, or library@gwumc.edu.
