HIPAA Training

Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

GWU provides introductory training on HIPAA policies and procedures, and requires completion of the training by all faculty and students. More >>

For Students

The HIPAA course is made available through Blackboard. There are 12 questions on the quiz and 10 of the 12 questions must be correctly answered to successfully complete the HIPAA training requirement. If a passing score is not achieved, review the material and take the quiz again. Please print a copy of your certificate and hold on to it. You will need the certificate to graduate.

For Faculty

GWUMC requires that all persons with regular full time faculty appointments complete the Basic HIPAA Primer offered online below. Faculty with appointments at CNMC, the Washington VA, the Washington Hospital Center, or the Medical Faculty Associates may provide proof of HIPAA training from these covered entities in lieu of the GW training program.

For GW Researchers

All faculty, staff and students involved in the design and conduct of human subjects research must fulfill the Collaborative IRB Training Initiative (CITI) training requirement in addition to the mandatory HIPAA course.
